Salted Caramel Butter Bars

We had our summer neighborhood BBQ this past Sunday so I decided to try out a recipe I got from a friend.  These were so easy!  The hardest thing about this recipe was finding caramel...who would've thought??  David and I went to 4 stores before finding individually packaged caramels!  BUT it was definitely worth it :)

For Crust
1lb. salted butter - room temp
1 C. sugar
1 1/4 C. powdered sugar
2 T. vanilla
4 C. all-purpose flour

For Filling
1 bag 14 oz. caramel candies - unwrapped
1/3 C. milk or cream
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 T. course sea salt

Crust
1. Preheat oven to 325°.  Combine butter and sugars in large bowl.
2. Mix on medium speed until creamy.  Add vanilla and combine.
3. Sift the flour into butter mixture and beat on low speed until smooth, soft dough forms.
4. Spray 9x13 baking pan with cooking spray.  Press 1/3 of the dough into pan evenly to form bottom crust.
5. Bake until firm and the edges are pale golden brown - 20 minutes.  Let cool about 15 minutes.  Chill remaining dough.

Filling
1. Place caramels in microwave-safe bowl.  Add vanilla and cream.  Microwave on high for 1 minute.  Remove from microwave and stir until smooth.  *may have to continue to microwave for 30 second intervals*
2. Pour caramel over crust.  Sprinkle with salt.
3. Remove chilled dough and crumble over caramel.
4. Bake until filling is bubbly - about 25-30 minutes.
5. Let cool and cut into squares.
**I had extra mini chocolate chips left over from this recipe so I through them on top as soon as I got them out of the oven.

Today I'm linking up with Tara and Vicki  for their fabulous linkup party, The Nail Files. Essie : Turquoise and Caicos Julep : Ivy Annnnd...I'm doing something a little special for my readers today - a nail polish giveaway!!  I am admittedly copying Christina over at Easily Entertained .  :) She recently did a nail polish giveaway (that I missed out on..boo) and I thought what a GREAT way to get rid of some of my overflowing collection of polishes!!! You will win 8 bottles of nail polish including brands: OPI, CHI, Ulta, Avon, 2 Glitter Pots from Julep, and an Ulta Lipgloss! I apologize for the lighting - I will try to get a better picture and upload it. All of these polishes are slightly used (maybe 2 or 3 times) except for the CHI brand and the green Ulta one - those have never been used.  The glitter pots and the lipgloss are also brand spankin' new. a Rafflecopter giveaway

Loving Lately: My Discovery of MAC Cosmetics

I am 29 years young and I have JUST discovered MAC.  Yes, it's true.  I have apparently been living under a rock.  In a bubble.  Something!!  I ran out of foundation this weekend and decided to give it a try.  And O.M.G. I am so glad I did.  Ok - here are my face issues... 1. Oily Eyelids - eyeshadow creases within an hour...not fun. 2. Oily Face - makeup disappears and the shine is outta control...not fun either!! 3. Acne Scars - the dark spot kind...ugh!  4. Acne - why do I have acne at 29???  It just isn't fair to have to use acne treatment AND an anti-aging cream!!  I went to the MAC counter with absolutely no makeup on whatsoever....I was not lookin' pretty!  They were having a special event to market their "after hours" collection  and there was a model there with her husband who is apparently a famous NBA basketball player from the LA Clippers.  I guess I should've gotten a picture but I was more focused on getting some makeup on my fac

TRIA Hair Removal Laser

Ok...I'm just going to jump right into this.  Let's talk about hair.  I'm not talking about the hair on your head that you want people to see and love.  I'm talking about the unwanted hair that you loathe and want noone to see!  Embarrassing subject?  Yep!!  I have a medical condition called PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) that has many, many side effects that makes it extremely difficult to get preggers but that's another subject we won't get into right now.  One of the most annoying effects being facial hair!!  There, I said it.  Since high school I've had to deal with this embarrassing situation.  Back then, I hated it and I would cry because I thought I was the only one dealing with this.  Now that I'm older (and wiser), I can laugh about it.  And the more I talk to people about it, the more I realize women everywhere are dealing with this "lady with the beard" issue.  I seriously could join a circus, people.  Ok, maybe it's not t
