Picture Frame Project

Have you ever gotten rid of old frames that don't match your decor??  Prepare to regret it!!  My mom had these in our last garage sale for a quarter and I snatched them up.  (I probably still owe her the fifty cents.)

I used the same technique I used to refinish my hope chest and added a few scrapbook flowers and black pearls.  I love how they turned out!

So, the next time you think you want to get rid of an old, out-dated frame...just slap some paint on it and fall in love with it all over again!!

Bracelet: Groopdealz - if you've never heard of them, you MUST go check them out!!
Shirt: NY&Company
Purse: Coach

And now for my swap reveal!!!  This was the "A Perfect Night In" swap hosted by Amber and Lin and it was so much fun!!

I was paired with the amazing Crystal at Thrify and Frugal Living.  Her blog is awesome - without it, I would've never gotten a year subscription to Cosmo...for FREE!  Thanks Crystal!!

Here are the goodies she sent me...it was like my bff went shopping for me!  Seriously, I loved everything!  She said she went off of this post to buy things for me....smart girl!  PLUS...she sent me bonus pictures of a mint watch and purse that she found at Target....her and I both want desperately need the watch!

Admission by Jean Hanff Korelitz
Gold Earrings - to die for!
Merona Mint Socks - solid and stripe
Glade Candle - Garden Sunshine - smells oh so good and matches my kitchen perfectly!
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Golden-I (love) and Mint Green Sorbet (double love)

And I just loved her note on the inside of the card.  I already wore those fabulous earrings and painted my nails gold!  And those socks are sooo soft!!  I've never worn Merona socks...I am now a fan.

Thank you again, Crystal!!  I'm so glad I met you through this swap!!

Leaving you with this quote...and the mint background that matches all the mint in the swap!

Bath and Body Works

Ok, so I have a little problem with Bath and Body Works.  I also talk about this here.  But, when they pretty much give you the stuff with all their coupons, it's hard..so very hard..to resist!!  Plus, when my hubby has to run into his golf store (which is about 45 seconds from BBW), I somehow always end up there.  So, I blame him.

Here are the newest additions to my Bath and Body Works stash!

Their soaps were on sale 5/$15 and they have some amazing new scents!

Coconut Cove / Kitchen Mandarin / Island Breeze / Berry Sangria / Eucalyptus Mint (this one isn't new but I had to have it)

Their new body scents Aruba Coconut and Bali Mango are my absolute favorites right now.  They are very "take me to the nearest beach" smells.  When I get more coupons, I'll have to go buy more of the Bali Mango.

ALSO.....my wedding post was just featured on Thrifty and Frugal Living...eeeek!!!  Go check it out!!!

Saturday Night Dessert Cocktail

Thought I'd share this chocolatey delicious (adult) treat that I just made. It's pretty amazing and I'm pretty sure I could have another one...or two...but I'm going to resist. Oh, the self control!  David doesn't like coconut but he really liked this drink...so I had to share.  Aren't I nice??

Chocolate Covered Banana
1 1/4 oz. Coconut Rum
1 Banana - sliced
4 TB. Chocolate Syrup
1/2 - 1 C. Vanilla Ice Cream

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

I can't make a drink without putting salt, sugar, or something fun on top...and pink sugar did just the trick!  The only thing that could've made this better is whip cream on top!  Enjoy!!

4.  My friend, Laura, took me on what we will call a field trip this week.  She took me to our local Asian Market.  I'm not sure what these eggs were called.  I was a little overwhelmed by all the "other" interesting items that I forgot to take a picture of the names of things!  But I just thought these were so pretty!

5.  The hubs' parents bought a cabin at a lake about 3 hours from here!  THIS is the view....cannot wait to spend a weekend there!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!  And I hope everyone else's weekend is more spring like than ours...it is supposed to be in the 40's and raining here....no fair!

Head Over Heels

Disclaimer: This post was intended to be my "oh so pinteresting" post - I was going to include "pinned" outfits that would go with each shoe.  BUT, Pinterest had other plans and decided to not let me embed anything.  So, perhaps that will happen another day.  I'm still linking up...hope nobody minds :)

I am admitting this right now for the first and last time....I have TOO many shoes.  There, I said it.  I have a ridiculous amount of shoes.  I never even wear over half of them!!  And, a couple days ago, I had a very sad realization that I really don't "like" my high heels anymore.  Don't get me wrong - I do LOVE them...I just don't LIKE them.  I know, very sad.  But they just aren't comfortable anymore.

Here's what happened that sad morning...  I wanted to wear a pair of black heels.  Now, I have about 4 pairs of black heels.  I tried them all on....and chose the pair with the shortest heel.  What is this world coming to?!?!  I have went back and forth over the last week or so debating on whether or not to get rid of my tall "hooker" heels.  But then I thought "What the heck are you thinking?!?!!"  So, this post is to motivate me to wear my too tall, sassy, sexy, colorful heels again!

See....

I told you... (see Ally in bottom right corner?!)

I have too many shoes!!

Here are a few of my faves:

Leopard Heels - From JCPenney

Royal Blue Heels - JCPenney

Orange Heels - JCPenney (I'm starting to see pattern here)

Mustard Heels

Black & White Heels - Sears - (yes, Sears!)

Emerald Green Heels - Target

Teal Michael Antonio Loveme Pump - find this brand here

Yellow Heels - I can't remember where these are from ... but I LOVE them!

Puma Pumagility Speed 2 Running Shoes - find them here.

adidas ClimaCool Running Shoe - find here.

Tidy Up Tuesday: Meal Planning Board

I've been using this menu board for almost 2 years and I don't know how I lived without it before!   I used to always go to the grocery store and buy things to make all kinds of new recipes and then I would get home and put everything away. By the time the week came and went, I would forget what I was supposed to make. So I ended up having all kinds of random food and it would go to waste. Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this!!

Now, before I go to the store, I plan dinners for the week and put them on the board. Then I make a list of everything I need so I only buy what is on the board...and my basics of course. And when each night comes around, I don't have to think about what I'm making for dinner. Plus, if I see I'm making say, chicken the next night, I sit it out the night before to thaw.

This board was SO EASY to make.

What you need:
12x12 Frame - I found mine at Hobby Lobby
12x12 Scrapbook Paper
Dry Erase Marker

The glass on the frame acts as a dry erase board...love it!!  I've also seen people use these as chore boards.  Hmmm....I bet they make good "honey-do" lists as well!

See my other organizing projects:

Liebster Award!!

So....back in November, a very important and exciting comment went into my spam.  I decided to take a look in my spam box today and found this from Andrea over at Andrea's Adventures!!

"Hey Kari! I nominated you for the Liebster award! Go check out the post on my blog :)http://alhadventures.blogspot.com/2012/11/liebster-award.html

Andrea

WHAT?!?!  Now that's an exciting suprise to find in your spam box :)  I feel so bad for not doing this back then...she probably thinks I'm such a slacker!!  So, today...I'm completing my Leibster Award tasks!!

If you receive this award, there are a few rules.
-Each blogger nominated must post 11 things about themselves.
-You must answer the 11 questions that the tagger has asked.
-The blogger must create 11 questions for the bloggers they are nominating.
-You must tag 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers for this award.
-Tell the bloggers you are nominating them.
-Link back to the nominator when you post about being nominated.
-No tag backs!

Here are the 11 things about me:
1.  I have never been to New York...it is my dream vacation.
2. My middle name is Lynn....after my uncle.
3.  I grew up on a farm...complete with cows and a horse.  When I was little, I named my favorite cows after the characters on Popeye.  I had Popeye, Olive Oyl, and Swee'Pea.
4.  I made the move to the big city of Oklahoma City a couple years ago - after meeting my now husband.
5. I met my husband on mySpace.  I used to make fun of "those" people...now I'm one of them!  Read our engagement story here.
6. I like to eat ice cream with a fork...weird, I know.
7.  It weirds me out to put my fork on a napkin and then reuse it.  Like if you eat dinner and are waiting on dessert.  I want a knew fork please!!
8.  I'm a little OCD...there is a place for everything and everything is in its place.
9. I work well under pressure.  I feel like that is the one thing I learned in college!  I used to write for our college paper and I seriously would wait until the night before deadline to get all of my interviews on paper!
10.  I have a SMALL obsession with shoes/flip flops!  I have a shoe closet and have about 65 pairs...most of them heels.  I'm trying to get better.  I've recently had the realization that I don't like 4" heels as much as I used to.  I prefer 3" ones now...must be getting older!
 11.  I am married to Batman.

Here are the answers to Andrea's questions:
1.  If you could live anywhere in the world for one year, where would you pick? Why?
Probably Florida.  I would love to live where it is always warm and I could go to the beach anytime I wanted.  I would go to the beach and sip on a margarita with my Cosmo EVERY weekend!  I also choose Florida because if I ever got tired of the beach (can't imagine that happening), I'm sure there are MANY things to do there.  The only thing I wouldn't like would be hurricanes.
2. What three things would you never be able to live without?
This is so hard...I'm not sure if we're talking 3 THINGS, PEOPLE, or what!!  So, I'll just go with 3 things I must have every day.
Cell Phone - to keep in contact with everyone.
Mascara - so I don't look tired all of the time.
Zevia - I recently gave up Diet Dr. Pepper for this and it's pretty yummy!
3. What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish?
Definitely my Grandma's and Mom's dressing.  My Grandma passed away 2 years ago on Christmas Day(She's our Christmas Angel) and now my mom makes it...it is delicious!
4. How did your parents choose your name?  Or how did you choose the name(s) of your child(ren)?
Honestly, I have no idea.  I think my Mom just wanted something different at the time.  Turns out, there was another Kari in my class from Kindergarten through 12th grade!
5. Why do you blog?
See this post.
6. What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
I'm loving this one right now:
"Pour yourself a drink, put some lipstick on, and pull yourself together" - Elizabeth Taylor
7.  Do you cheer for any sports teams?  Which ones?
OKC THUNDER!!!
8. If you could take a vacation to any US city/state, which would you choose?  Why?
NYC!  I've always wanted to go here.  When I was little, it was my dream to live there.  But now that I'm older, I don't think I would want to actually live there...just visit!
9. What is your favorite current TV show?
Revenge and Walking Dead
10. Of all your birthdays so far, which has been the best?  What did you do?
Funny you should ask...see this.
11. What is the top item on your Christmas Wish List this year?
Well since she tagged me for this post in November, I'll just say what my item was.  It was an Epiphanie Camera Bag..and I got it!!  See it here!

Here are the questions for my nominees:
1.  What is your must have beauty product?
2. Have you been to any fun vacation spots lately that you would go back to?
3. Favorite all time movie?
4.  If you could visit one place in the world, where would it be?
5.  What is the craziest diet you've tried?
6. What is the most valuable life lesson you've learned so far?
7.  How long have you been blogging and what made you get started?
8. What is your favorite holiday and why?

9.  If you had to choose one store to shop in for the rest of the year, which one would it be?
10.  Favorite things to do on the weekends?
  11.  What were some of your New Years resolutions?  And are you still working toward them?

And....here are my nominees:

Sunday Social

Sunday Social
Linking up with Neely for Sunday Social!  I'm a little late...but I've been sick with horrible allergies and now I can't sleep...so here goes.

1. Favorite thing to do on a rainy day? Read and watch Lifetime movies!
2. Favorite thing to do on a Summer weekend? Do some type of outdoor activity, eat on the patio at a restaurant...especially by the lake!, yard work, take Ally to the dog park.
3. Favorite Spring accessory? Sandals!
4. Favorite way to spend a Winter day? Sit by the fire place with a cinnamon candle going and read magazines or bake!
5. What is your favorite season and why? Spring AND Fall...I don't want to choose!  I love them both because it isn't too hot or too cold.  Fall...I love the smell of fall, the crisp air, the changing of the leaves, and pumpkin candles.  Spring....I love the freshness of everything and daylight savings!
6. Best birthday you ever had? I don't really have a specific year...I have many memories.  Every year growing up, I always had a pool party at our local community pool.  We would cook out, and my Mom would always make her famous brownie "sheet" cake and also order a personalized cake.  We would have ice cream and I remember her always going to several grocery stores to get the gallons of fruit punch.  All of my cousins and friends would come.  When we would get home, we'd always put my all of my presents on the kitchen table and take pictures!  Such good memories!!

St. Patty's Day Treats ♣

Happy St. Patty's Day everyone!!  I had so much fun preparing this post...I got to drink booze and eat cake!

Now, that's what I call lucky!  The hubs and I decided to stay home since we have been under allergy attack all week.  I'm ok with having seasonal allergies...but not EVERY season!!  I'm so excited to share all the goodies we made for our St. Patrick's Night In so let's just dive right in!

♣ Grasshopper Cake

Ingredients
1 Box White Cake Mix
Ingredients called for on the Back of the Box: egg whites, oil and water
2 1/2 tsp. Mint Extract
Green Food Color
1 16 oz. Jar Hot Fudge Topping
1 8 oz. Container Whipped Topping, thawed
Creme de Menthe Chocolate Candies, chopped into pieces

Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350F degrees.  Spray 9x13 cake pan (you also make cupcakes with this) with nonstick cooking spray.

2. Mix cake mix according to the directions on the back of the box.  Add in 2 tsp. of the mint extract and the food coloring.  See the handy dandy chart below for achieving the color you want.  Thank you, Pinterest!  We (the hubs helped with all these fun treats) chose the Creme de Menthe color.

Here is what it turned out like.  Fun!!

3. Pour the batter into the cake pan and cook according to the box.

4. Once it is finished baking, allow to cool completely and then spread the hot fudge sauce on the cooled cake.  **You make need to heat the fudge in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds until it is easier to spread.  It will still need to be thick..just spreadable.

5.  Next, add 1/2 tsp. of mint extract and green food coloring (I made this layer lighter than the cake) in the whipped topping.  Stir it up.

6.  Spread the whipped topping onto the cake.

7.  Then sprinkle with the chopped candies.

Here is how it looks....mint green is a biotch to photograph!  So....I had to turn all the lights off and only use my flash.

With lights on....

With lights off.  I also sprinkled with gold sugar sprinkles...you can really see them in this pic.

Either way....it was was delicious!  This cake will need to be stored in the fridge.

Now, onto the booze!

We made several drinks.  Purely for the purpose of taking the pictures and sharing with you guys, of course :)

♣ Kiss Me I'm Irish
Ingredients:
1 1/2 part Tequila
1 part Blue Curacao
1 part Mango Juice
1 part Pineapple Juice

Instructions
Shake all ingredients together with ice and pour into glass.  I also added a few drops of green food coloring just to give it a more green tint.

I found some gold shimmery sugar sprinkles at Michaels...perfect for these!

♣ Pot o' Gold
The hubs and I made this drink up...I told him what ingredients to use and he figured out the ratio.  However, I'm sure he added a bit much vodka :)

Ingredients
2 parts UV Cake Vodka (love this stuff - see these root beer floats I made with it)
2 parts Creme de Cacao
3 parts Milk

Instructions:
Shake with ice and strain into martini glass.  Top with gold sugar sprinkles.

I got these green martini glasses after Christmas last year at Target....they were 50 cents each!!

This drink can also be made as a shot.  The shot glass my brother-in-law got me in Ireland was very appropriate for this!

I swirled green food coloring gel around the shot glass.

♣ Grasshopper

Ingredients:
2 shots UV Cake Vodka
2 shots Green Creme de Menthe
Ice Cream
Milk

Instructions:
Blend everything in blender.  Pour into glass.

David swirled chocolate syrup in this glass...yummy!

Hope you enjoy your St. Patrick's Day!!  What kind of treats did you have?

Linking up with Kristine for her Sunday Funday Linkup Party...which btw..guess who was featured this week on her linkup party?!?!  Yours truly!!  How exciting is that!?!?!
