TRIA Hair Removal Laser

Ok...I'm just going to jump right into this.  Let's talk about hair.  I'm not talking about the hair on your head that you want people to see and love.  I'm talking about the unwanted hair that you loathe and want noone to see!  Embarrassing subject?  Yep!!

I have a medical condition called PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) that has many, many side effects that makes it extremely difficult to get preggers but that's another subject we won't get into right now.  One of the most annoying effects being facial hair!!  There, I said it.  Since high school I've had to deal with this embarrassing situation.  Back then, I hated it and I would cry because I thought I was the only one dealing with this.  Now that I'm older (and wiser), I can laugh about it.  And the more I talk to people about it, the more I realize women everywhere are dealing with this "lady with the beard" issue.  I seriously could join a circus, people.  Ok, maybe it's not that bad but you get the idea.

About two years ago, I discovered laser hair removal.  I had heard of it before, but always thought it was crazy expensive and that I would never be able to afford it.  Well, it IS expensive.  But these days, it seems like every day there are different Groupons and such going on for laser hair removal.  So about two years ago, I purchased a six treatment plan from Groupon for a local medi-spa/salon.  And OMG I was so glad I did!!  Why hadn't I done this sooner??  It worked!  I no longer had to pluck every. single. night.  Yay!!  But then, my six treatments were over and I never did any maintenance.  They recommend going back about every 3-4 months just for touch-ups.  I didn't.  And low and behold, the damn whiskers, as I like to call them, came back.  Fail.

So - I've been dealing with the plucking, waxing, and trying to hide my chin while in the sun (because we all know the sunlight shows EVERY little hair) for about a year now.  One night, while I couldn't sleep, I was watching QVC and the new "Today's Special Value" came on.  I'm pretty sure they were talking directly to me during their presentation.  I just know it.

It was for the TRIA Hair Removal Laser.  The price didn't appeal to me at first ($400), but when I thought about it, I already spent $100 on six treatments and needed it again and will probably need it again because my horomones are whack.  So, I could either keep getting Groupons, making appointments, and going to the spa OR I could have this forever, do any area I wanted, and do it in my own home in five to ten minutes.  EASY decision.  So, I splurged.

I am in love.  There are five settings, 1 to 5.  The first time I used 3 and the last two times, I've used 4.  So, I've only used it 3 times and I already notice a HUGE difference!!  I will probably put it on 5 next time just to get the stubborn ones.  It does sting a little but only for a second.  I did one little "zap" on David's beard (not where anyone would notice) just so he would know what it feels like and he said he could still feel the "electricity" five minutes later.  Ummm...I don't think so!  Men are such babies!!

I am so glad I made this big purchase.  I can't wait to get the final results and know that if I need any touch-up work, all it takes is a walk to my bathroom and a couple minutes of some laser time.

So go check it out on QVC or Amazon.  I was really surprised to learn that QVC has so many beauty products including Sugar, Laura Geller, Philosophy, Smashbox and so many others!!

Now that I've told the world I have facial hair, I feel like we've bonded and I feel so much more closer to you all!  Nothing like a good talk about whiskers! :)

Honey Do List

This isn't your typical "Honey Do" list - this is your "Honey Does Fabulous Things" list!!  Ok - enough of that.  When thinking of a title for this post, I just HAD to use something about honey do....and then it got cheesy in a hurry.  So, moving on....

I came across something in a magazine that talked about all the benefits of honey for your skin and hair.  I'm always on the hunt for wonderful beauty products and tips, so I thought I'd give this a go.

First, I mixed olive oil and honey to create a syrup-like consistency.  (I saved the spoons from our last trip to Orange Leaf Fro-Yo - perfect for this)  I put this all over my hair and rubbed in as much as I could.  I have to admit, I was a little skeptical.  Once I got this all rubbed in, I thought "HOW the HECK is this going to come out without ripping my hair out?"  I seriously thought the person that came up with this recipe was some type of prankster and thought it would be funny to see all these people with syrupy, ripped out chunks of hair.  You're supposed to leave it on for 20 minutes.  After my panic and images of having to cut this out of my hair, I rinsed it out after 10 minutes.  Verdict?  It actually washed out with ease and my hair was super soft!!!  Will be doing this again ... for the required amount of time!

Next, I mixed honey, salt, and milk.  Be careful not to add too much milk - you want it to be a paste-like texture.  I rubbed this all over my face and let it set for about 30 minutes.  This is supposed to help with acne scars and Lord knows I need that!!  It did make my skin "glow" a little more but I need to use this more often to see a difference in my scars.

Last, I made a foot mask.  I mixed oatmeal, salt, and honey.  I have to warn you, this will be messy!  I made the mistake of doing this in my kitchen.  Luckily, our furbaby, Ally, was there lick up the mess.  I can't imagine what it tasted like - yuck!  I would suggest doing this either outside, over a towel, or in the tub.  I put socks on and left this on for about 30 minutes before washing off.  I guess I could've just let Ally lick my feet - she probably would've like that.  Again, yuck!  My feet were a little softer after this - would definitely do this again.

What good beauty recipes do you know??

On a side note, the 2nd playoff game is happening tonight...THUNDER UP!!!!

OKC Thunder Wreath

As many of you know, the OKC Thunder are playing in the NBA playoffs and David and I are huge Thunder fans!!  They won the first game and play the 2nd tomorrow night, I believe!!  I even chose my Julep Maven box one month because the polishes were blue and orange.  And here is one of my first ever blog posts of us in our Thunder gear.  If we could go to every game, we would.  I decided instead of buying a Thunder wreath and spending about twice the amount, I would just make one!  It was sooo easy - thanks to this website.  I love all of her videos!  I don't think I will ever buy a wreath again.

I made this fun little collage in my new favorite iPhone app called Photo Collage.  It was free until I fell in love with this heart one and then I was suckered into paying $1.99 so I could get it.  So not fair!

I got all of my supplies at Hobby Lobby.  I used:
1 Large Wreath Form
(our front door is huge - otherwise I would've done a smaller one and had more left over)
Pipe Cleaners
Deco Mesh in Blue and Orange
Bridal Wired Ribbon in White - you can also use tulle
Wired Orange Ribbon
Zebra Ribbon
(I couldn't fnd it in wired - I would highly suggest using wired if at all possible)
Styrofoam Basketballs
I added some Black Stickles to the black lines just to dress them up.  Hobby Lobby had some basketball appliques that I really liked but they weren't on sale.  I will probably go back and get them when they put them on sale because I'm not totally in love with these styrofoam ones - but they will work for now.

I won't walk you through all of the steps because you can go watch this girl's awesome video tutorials and see how I did it.

It took about 2 hours to make.  It's not completely done because I want to add "OKC" in the middle with wooden letters.  I'm going to paint them blue and add blue glitter so that should be a mess fun.

My plan for Christmas is to do a Thunder Christmas tree in our extra bedroom.  I started making the decorations for it last year.  See my Thunder ornaments here.

Once I add the letters and maybe some more zebra ribbon, I'll post the finished product.  Go THUNDER!!

Operation: Cutify Office Space

I'm at work more than I'm at home (aren't we all?!), so I decided to add some fanciness to my office.  So, I hit my favorite shopping spots for decorations: Hobby Lobby, Ross, Gordman's, and Kirkland's.  I added a little paint to some of the items and headed up to work on a Saturday to begin my project.  I also begged and pleaded with David to come with me so he could hang things.  He's a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to hanging things on the wall.  I tend to just "eye" it and hang it.  He, on the other hand, uses a level.  HA!

I decided to go with a navy and brown color scheme.  I also have leopard desk accessories that I've had for a while, so they go with these colors.

I found this piece at Hobby Lobby.  It was 1/2 off because it was metal and it was also a little banged up.  I knew I would be painting it (it started out brown), so I went ahead and got it even with the dents and scratches.  The cashier took it upon herself to take an additional percentage off so I ended up only paying about ten bucks for it!  SCORE!  I, well actually David because I completely suck at spray painting, painted it several coats of this gorgeous blue.  I love how it turned out!

I found these at Kirkland's in the clearance sections - $6 each!  I got 2 and hung on either side of the above metal piece.

I had this ladder shelf in my garage with outdoor shoes and such on it.  I did have it in our old house but when we moved, it got a little bent out of shape so I never brought it back in.  It's perfect for the office!  (The outside shoes and everything that was on it have not found a new home yet)

The leopard ball is from Kirkland's.  I know these usually go in a bowl or something but I kinda like this look.  The orange "Keep Calm and Carry On" came from Gordman's for $5!!  The other side says "Now Panic and Freak Out" - I love this!

I had the frame on the left so I just spray painted it blue.  I found the frame on the right at Ross for 4 bucks.  It was originally purple.

This came from Hobby Lobby.  It was actually in the spring outside decor.  Glad I went down that aisle!

Blue trinket box from Gordman's and gold candle hold from Ross.

From Kirkland's

Kirkland's Vases

Ok - this heart birdcage was originally a "country" green and had a pink looking bird with some straw inside of it.  It was very "southwestern" looking.  My mom used to have it in her house and she put it in our last garage sale.  Speaking of garage sale, I also got these from her.  I stole it and ripped all of the inside stuff out, painted it and will eventually figure out what to put inside of it.  I want to put some type of leopard material in the bottom and then put that led candle on top of the material.  I have yet to do that but I have big plans.

This is one of those holders that photo albums come a little gift set.  I kept this holder for some reason.  Glad I did!  It matches perfectly and looks like a bookend....or something like that.

I THINK this came from Hobby Lobby....I can't remember.  Maybe Kirkland's.

Got this at Hobby it!
